 Live Drawing 
& Painting (intensive)

The most popular course at ASIB for adults and teens above 14 now in the form of intensive weekends as well

Whether you are professionally or non-professionally involved in arts, this course may be a fun and relaxed way to enforce your current knowledge and skills in 2D figure depiction. Learning in a small group will provide you with a lot of personal attention and thanks to special teaching-learning methods we nourish at ASIB you will have a chance to learn having a curricula specially design to meet your personal level, needs and interest.  
During the lessons a model (including nude) will be set and you will be encouraged to make sketches, small drawings and paintings in a technique of your choice and expand the knowledge of your visual expression while keeping your own unique handwriting. You will be able to bring nearly any traditional or non traditional drawing and/or painting materials (turpentine, oil paints and sprays excluded) and ask for guidance about how to use techniques, how to draw/paint what you see, how to represent depth, tones, how to play with composition, focus of attention, and much more. Beside acquiring traditional knowledge of figure painting and/or drawing you will also have an opportunity to explore and expand the language of your visual self-expression.  Applications to this course will include tea and light snacks as well as model's fee . 4–7 students

Secrets of 
Egg Tempera 

 A long weekend course for adults and teens above 14 regardless of their previous experience
 
    Can you imagine that your main kitchen ingredients, such as eggs or vinegar were once supplies in every painting workshop?
    Egg tempera has been one of the oldest painting techniques in the Western visual depiction. It was widely used in Europe till the 15th century, when it was overtaken by oil-paint. Nowadays, this technique is still used, mainly in Orthodox icon painting and by some contemporary artists.
At this course you will learn:
● How to prepare and paint with your own egg tempera
● How to choose the right painting brushes and canvases 
● How to make skin glue and your own Italian gesso
● How to prepare your panel for painting

Mornings in the  
Botanical Garden

intensive painting and/or drawing course for adults and teens above 14 regardless of their previous experience

Whether you would like to explore how to use colors to get in touch with your inner world, or would rather enjoy learning more technical drawing painting skills this is a course for you. Depending on your personal level and aspirations we will address topics such as color theory, developing sensitivity for mixing tones, using color and/or line to present space, focus, volume, light and  composition as well as some basics of drawing and painting technology. Learning in a small group will provide you with a lot of personal attention and you will have personal curricula specially design to meet your own needs and interests. The course will take part in one of my favorite spots in Budapest, the beautiful botanical garden in 25 Illés street (district 8).

Have you always wanted to understand what contemporary art is about?    Through a series of interactive lectures and your active engagement in open discussions, you will start to deepen your understanding and thinking about contemporary art and acquire an understanding of the historical changes in art through the 20th century. The course aims to help you acquire confidence and some basic skills to relate to art works being made in the last 50 years.

An intensive weekend workshop for everyone, regardless of age, talent or skills

If you long to awaken your creativity and have fun, if you are not even sure whether you know how to be creative or if you wish to use artistic expression to deepen your self-growth, this is a workshop for you. Through using traditional and alternative art materials, this workshop aims at helping you re-create the joy of self expression and and help you liberate yourself from the eventual obstacles which do not allow your creativity to flow. Methods used in this course are related to my doctorate research in art education as well as the process of Marshall B. Rosenberg’s NVC (Nonviolent Communication).  Applications to this course will include all materials, tea and light snacks. group size: 3–6

 Painting Explorations (intensive)

The joy of expressing yourself with colors - a 4 week workshop for adults and teens above 14

 If you long to awaken your creativity, have fun and try out new techniques  this is a workshop for you. Through using traditional and alternative painting materials, this workshop aims at helping you gain some technical knowledge, experience along with the joy of self expression.  Methods used in this course are related to Barbara Guttman's doctorate research in art education as well as the process of Marshall B. Rosenberg’s NVC (Nonviolent Communication).  Applications to this course will include all materials, tea and light snacks.  3–6 students

All courses at ASIB are taught by Barbara Guttman, artists and art educator with a doctorate degree in Fine Arts. Barbara cares deeply about the high quality of the lessons at her school. She believes that learning and making art can be a fun and a deeply meaningful personal experience. Therefore all ASIB courses are in small groups with a special focus on meeting the individual needs and interests of each student with a unique approach to teaching-learning art.
